Grand Master Son, Duk Sung became the second head of Chung Do Kwan after its founder Grand Master Lee, Won Kuk retired.
As a very powerful Martial Artist Grand Master Son was appointed as the Chief Instructor of the Republic of South Korea's army by the country's President Syngman Rhee.
In 1955 Members of the Government, Press and Military met with Son, Duk Sung, who was accompanied by Maj Gen Choi, Hong Hi and Capt Nam, Tae Hi to discuss creating a new name for their style of Korean Karate.
The name agreed upon was 'TAE KWON DO'.

1970's - Grand Master Davies Kicking
Grand Master Son, who knew Kim, Bok Man, invited him to give a demonstration to Gen Choi, Hong Hi, of the Taekkyun self defence training he was giving to fellow soldiers during his time in the army. General Choi was so impressed with the then Sgt Kim that he invited him to help develop modern Tae Kwon Do techniques. (Kim is circled sitting next to Gen Choi).
Kim, was renowned for his impressive jumping kicks.
